Artists Describing Their Art:

Claudia Nierman - Some words about my work: The images I produce are deliberately enigmatic and multi-layered. They invite the viewer to engage in the process of storytelling whereby dreaming and living are woven together as a tapestry. I find the sources for my work in the urban environment: window displays, torn posters, graffiti, broken architecture. In short, the remains of man. These objects and situations are eventually transformed by rain, sun, reflections, and shadows, as well as additions made by the passerby. Shaped by the forces of chance, these ephemeral visions are captured on film (and now also in bits and bites) and used as raw material that merge one into another forming a new identity. The result? On one hand, a strange amalgam of my preoccupation with time and memory, and on the other, the way in which the deliberate manipulaton through photographic images can give us insight into our personal and collective struggles. Technical information: I usually work in three different formats: 25 cm x 30 cm and 32 cm x 45 cm printed on cibachrome paper; and a large format of 57 cm x 80 cm, digitilizing the final image and printing it on canvas. (Since this latter ...

Klaus Lange - I photograph "sea-worn stories" in the weathered and worn paint on the sides of ships at sea. With my camera I capture distressed painted steel, thus presenting an intimate look at what most people not only never see, but generally are not even aware of. With that I reveal some intensely dramatic abstract imagery and the grand power of an ever moving force - the sea....

Vincenzo Montella - Vincenzo Montella was born in Benevento, Italy the 7/14/1952 and lives in Naples where works as psychiatrist. He is graduated in Medicine and Philosophy and specialist in psychiatry and family psychotherapy. He is artist, poet and photographer. He studied photography at the Toscana Photographic Workshops attending courses of William Allard, Michael Yamashita, Machiel Botman, Alex Webb, Jeff Jacobson, Arkady Llove, Sarah Moon, Carol Dragon. ...

Wayne Quilliam - Adjunct Professor Wayne Quilliam is a professional Australian Aboriginal Photographic artist/film maker/cultural advisor working on the international stage. With more than 20 years experience working in all areas of photography including social documentary, sport, tourism, fashion, weddings, movies, event documentation and exhibitions, Wayne is recognised as a leading contemporary in his field. His work is a fusion of traditional spirituality and contemporary photographic processes, each image represents an interpretation of culture in the modern world. His dream is to work with all races of the world and conduct exhibitions in every country....

Michael Leyton - In his MIT Press book, Symmetry, Causality, Mind (630pages) and his book in Springer-Verlag, A Generative Theory of Shape (550pages), Michael Leyton has elaborated an extensive theory of why art has such a powerful impact on the human mind. This results in an ability to intensify the content of artworks through an increased understanding of compositional organization, that Leyton has provided in his scientific work, which includes his mathematical foundations for geometry. For example, theorems of his, such as the Symmetry-Curvature Duality Theorem, which are now used in over 40 disciplines including many branches of medicine and engineering, also explain the human perceptual response to art-works. Not only has he demonstrated this in his lengthy published analyses of classical and modern artists, but he has also demonstrated that it is possible to surpass the intensity of these artists. This he has done by using the theory developed in his books in the creation of his own artworks - his paintings, his published architectural designs, and the published scores of his musical compositions. The portfolio at the present site is currently under construction. While this is in progress, the reader can gain an extensive introduction to Leyton's artistic ...

Dragutin Barac - "The eyes are reflection of the soul" So and my art speaks about me. Sensitive and refined sense of observation created me as the artist with both, painting and photography skill.I started paint in watercolour technique. After I visited London and Amsterdam, where I spent three years, I slightly changed my view of life; started with another approach of art - PHOTOGRAPHY. Spending most of the time in different places, mainly by nature, I become fascinated with Mediterranean mysticism what is everywhere visible. I am a member of CROATIAN FREELANCE ARTISTS ASSOCIATION and CROATIAN FINE-ART ARTISTS ASSOCIATION. I have been working as freelance for a twenty years....

Alison Raimes - Blurred Edges is a multi media project exploring the boundaries of the contemporary perception of reality. Using intriguing and strange images created by photographing hand made models made from everyday materials, the photographs are morphed, manipulated and juxtaposed with the atmospheric, dense drones of sound artist, Red Fog

Enzo Amato - Documentary in style, with an interest that stems from his chronicling of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the work of Italian photographer Enzo Amato captures his understanding of the correlation between the spontaneity and energy of a fleeting moment between subjects and events. Amato's work is the result of the artist's innate patience, interest and adept ability to witness and capture ephemeral moments in a type of historical archive. Bearing witness to the fall of the Berlin Wall triggered in the mind of the artist the significance and effect of writing on walls - and the impact of seeing messages in the public realm. Street art itself is usually a non-permanent artform executed by unseen, by-night artists, outside of the context of traditional art venues. For Amato, the interest is as much about the artist, and the environment within which it has been painted as it is about the art. Many of his photographs show the artist at work, yet most represent the works themselves after completion, and in the context of everyday life carrying on around them. His work is often juxtaposed against the backdrop of social or political issues, such as his ...

Corrie Ancone - Artist statement : "I don't care for the certainty of what's in front of my lens, but the creativity, the fantasy, the invention, that can gush from a thought before or thereafter. Between the certain and the uncertain there is a possible space, as in dreams and fables. Heavily influenced by mythology, nature and the techniques and working styles of the early European Dadaists, Impressionists and Baroque artists, my creativity stems from my lust for finding and exploring sympathies between the human body, the landscape and its textures. Oscillating between transparency and opacity, colours and images collide in my work, creating new visual and emotional images, often painterly and somewhat surreal, which affect perceptions of natural reality. This is sometimes described as 'synthetic realism'." Corrie Ancone ...
