Un giorno mi imbatto in una vecchia scatola di fotografie di famiglia e, iniziando a osservarle, rimango sorpreso da quanto la rappresentazione fotografia di quei momenti non restituisse il vero ricordo del mio essere da bambino. Iniziai a riflette basandomi sulle mie certezze fotografiche costruite con anni di letture sul senso della fotografia e del sottile confine fra finzione e realtà. In un primo momento mi convinsi, con superficiali considerazioni, ciò che io stavo osservando in quelle fotografie della mia infanzia non era la “realtà del mio personale vissuto”, ma la costruzione da parte dei miei genitori di ciò che avrebbero voluto fosse ricordato, nel modo in cui loro desideravano che la nostra vita fosse ricostruita. Ma in quelle foto, dove io riconoscevo la parte “esteriore” di me, leggevo una profonda differenza fra ciò che vedevo rappresentato nella immagine e la mia consapevolezza di me in quegli anni. Da qui inizia la riflessione in chiave fotografica che si concretizza nel lavoro Io è l’altro. Le basi concettuali si ritroveranno negli scritti di Arthur Rimbaud, e in quelli di vari autori che hanno ritenuto di analizzare, partendo dalla considerazione per la quale il primo livello di propagazione dell’Io non fosse l interiorità, bensì l esteriorità intesa non come ‘apparenza”, ma come ‘materia’, ‘parte esteriore’ , il contatto costante che l Io ha con l Altro tramite la parte esteriore di se, l incontro con l esterno, o meglio, gli incontri che, uno dopo l altro, si stratificano e formano l identità stessa del soggetto e la costruzione del proprio Io. Nasce quindi in me l’idea concreta che l’Io interiore sia il risultato dell’incontro, del confronto e dello scontro della propria parte esteriore con altri che determineranno la comprensione e la costruzione della propria parte interiore. Si costruisce uno schema, che la fotografia vuole restituire, dell’allontanamento dalla serena e rassicurante convinzione della stabilità dell’Io con se stesso, errando smarrito nell’universo della alterità, uscendo dalla propria individualità, a contatto con la presenza, spesso inquietante, dell’altro che abita in te, e che si è insinuato in te nel mondo delle relazioni esterne. Questa presenza è ossessiva ed ingombrante, viene vissuta come una forza capace di trasformare la tua forma esteriore, nel continuo gioco della alterità interiore fra l’Io e l’altro, sino a sublimarne la fusione: Io è l’altro.
