Artists Describing Their Art:
Timothy King - ARTIST STATEMENT and BIOGRAPHY STATEMENT I find painting goes beyond the notion that painted reality is "nothing but " a precursor to a photographic realism. Painting is a phenomenological experiment. There is a synthesis between the visual and the kinesthetic that forms a powerful third range of human perception. Human space and form are not purely optical manifestations. The painting of mass and line can provoke a muscle sense, a physical ness between viewer and the painted relationships. Hans Hoffman called this "Push-Pull". Matisse referred to this as the convexity of pictorial space. In this "meta-vision" or "minds-eye" the painter is not freed from the experience of perspective and local color and the naturalistic geometry of the objects and scenes. Rather, the painter can be liberated by the experience and knowledge of the defining aspects of human reality. Vision encompasses the obvious factors of sight along with other less obvious paths to sensing reality. Human vision is based on a plasticity of structures that tell us more than what a photograph can convey. The visual system, governed by layers of logical relationships, goes much further than a photo interpretation of reality. Painters like Courbet and Cezanne understood ...
Ana Monaghan - I spend a lot of time in both Hawaii and Japan. Much of my art is done out of doors, while directly viewing the subject. I wish to idealize every separate island in the Pacific region, and show the local people and scenery in their native beauty. Denise Dalzell - Painting. Illustration. Expressionism. Pop Art. Modern. Realism and, occasionally, a bit of Abstraction. My current work centers on my consideration of how we respond to each other, the stories that develop between us and around us, and how our collective stories reflect on and influence us individually. How our stories bounce off each other and combine to create new stories. My paintings are illustrations of the scenes that I encounter during my travels abroad and in daily life so, some scenes are more sweeping than others. How do we, as people of differing backgrounds, cultures, and experiences interact with each other Are we different people in a crowd than when alone How do we fit in or stand out where we find ourselves at any given moment, in any given story Stories are everywhere, and thereaEURtms no predicting what theyaEURtmll reveal. Body language, movement, color, contrast combine to illustrate my scenes of interaction between people and within environments. The excitement of being a part of something as unifying as a protest, the sense of adventure that comes from starting out with no particular destination, intimate moments with those we love and those we discover in the big events...
Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. My traditional art foundations of drawing, painting and printmaking, evolved into video, digital photography and experimental media. I use digital photography and imaging to envision the concepts originating from the creative pulse. An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. Neal Alicakos - I always had a passion for abstract art and did many doodles when I was young. Through my school years I tried to design the year books. In college I minored in art but my majors were more geared for the business world. Although I was not in the art world for many years I always did my doodles to relieve my stress and fill in free time that I had. Now I am semi retired and want to take more of an interest in the things I like most, my doodles and abstract art work. I believe art is an expression of ones soul and mood behaviors. I used to draw mostly black and whites but find I like using colors now. Once in a while I like to combine black and whites, and the use of color in the same abstract drawing. Most times the viewer may not consider that as appealing, but I like to break boundaries as part of expression. Another medium I focus on time to time is photography. I like pictures of landscapes, seascapes, floral, and building structures. I find beauty in nature and architecture. ...
Elena Soroka - I am researching a womans self-awareness, formed through the prism of stereotypes and prejudices that were developed in society. I compare behavior deviation from expected patterns to a glitch effect. Glitch art opposes the digital culture promoting an ideal transmission of the image. The glitch is an inconsistency in the information expected. Social glitch is self-expression through violation of programmed standing orders. I express the glitch effect through the Central Asian ikat ornament. An ornament is a visual projection of a society. And for me personally it is endowed with special meanings because I grew up in Tashkent, and oriental ornament is part of my aesthetics. The object of my research is the criteria by which a woman compares herself with others. In my work, I reflect on the relativity of such patterns of consciousness, following which the woman accepts the roles imposed on her and agrees with the proposed assessment of her personal value. My statement accumulates my individual experience, this is the story of my search for my identity. Under the weight of preconceptions and prejudices, a woman dissolves in her encirclement. But I believe that we are not entitled to give away our values aEUR
Radford Thomas - STATEMENT BY RADFORD THOMAS Art is my life and my art is a reflection of all the images, actions, sights, sounds and individuals that I have encountered during my tenure here on this earth. Painting is never approached from a viewpoint of producing a "thing" but instead it is the "thing" that appears as I work. All this means is that, for me, painting is a free flowing, creative process, one that evolves as the art work progresses. In my paintings, the initial implementation of paint tells me what to do and I follow its advice henceforth. ...
